MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 470-430 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 16.69 g, 12 h). Lion to right, attacking a bull collapsing to left with head raised; above, ΔΙ; in exergue, laurel branch. Rev. ΑΚΑ-Ν-ΘΙΟ-Ν Raised quadripartite square with granulated fields surrounded by inscription; all within shallow incuse square. Desneux - (D-/R98). HGC 3.1, 385. The eye of the bull tooled and slightly granular, otherwise, very fine.
